A couple months ago I started using
Google Voice. Recently I updated my Blackberry's firmware to version 5, and updated the Google Voice app, and well, my Verizon voicemail mysteriously disappeared!
When I held down '1' to dial for voicemail (even when manually dialing '*86' [
more info]) the phone called my Google Voice #!
Well, I found from
here that Google Voice automatically entered this new feature in October, I guess to propel people to more actively use the free service at home or on the go... it still would have been nice to have had a clear prompt.
Anyho, if it did this to you, read
this from Google voice's help site, and do exactly what it says (you'll need to open the advanced settings), even if it doesn't seem to make sense right away, just look for the
Deactivate Voicemail option and follow the prompt, you can always reactivate it later, and viola! You now have your cell's original voicemail back.
P.S. as of Nov 17 2009, I have 3 invites for google voice available... anyone want in?
